This study concerns the analysis of process and consequences of environmental risk’s revaluation in practices and attitudes of environmental movement participants, particularly, revaluation of movement members reflection and their collective action concerned with low ecologization of utilization practices.

U. Back’s “reflexive modernization” concept acts as theoretical frame of the study in accordance with which people needs change in appliance with “logic of self-expression and risk avoidance” that was created in the process of modernization. Participants’ and leaders’ practices and views of one of such social movements are the subject for analysis in this work.

Since risk reflection of modernization wasn’t examined before as the issue of practices’ ecologization and joining environmental movements then to carry out quantitative research seems to be impropriate. Qualitative methods could help to achieve the goal, to analyze the process and consequences of reflexive modernization at the level of environmental movement participants. In the process of data collection 8 participants and 3 leaders have been interviewed. Data have allowed saying that initial involvement into activity of environmental movement and initial risk reflection have taken place because of private experience of modernization risks, own experience of participation in movement activity as street cleaning or existing norm at a person. In accordance with ideas of M. Douglas about relativity of categories of cleanness and dirtiness it was clarified that ecologization of practices and reflection level could be measured by perception of garbage. Perception of garbage as useful, neutral and global correspond to high level of reflection, presumably, person with such an understanding of garbage has more ecological practices of utilization. In the process of experience accumulation in the movement ways of perception of the world and identity defining which appear in participants’ description of movement activity. People feel satisfaction from the solidarity feeling, action coordination and mutual beliefs. This way they maintain and support their identity reflecting and valuating their own practices. Data interpretation of qualitative interviews has allowed to make preliminary typologization of motives for entering the movement and transformation of identity among respondents: if ones begin with quite high level of risk reflection and later maintain and intensify this reflection, while other ones come due to the need in identity, solidarity, following norms or referent group and then intensify reflection, transform identity and ecologize practices.

Among movement strategies the most significant ones happen to be strategies that are, first of all, relating to information gaining and exchange through the Internet and, in particular, social networks. The Internet includes in itself stimulating the reflection movies, articles and stats about modernization risks and reasons to sort garbage. For many people practical information about places for sorted garbage and dates of arrangements is important. Moreover, people were inspired by viewing information about other people successful experience and also by example of movement leaders. People have assigned and importance of material structure, in particular, the presence of containers for sorted garbage that, in their opinion, stimulates ecological practices of utilization among population.
