PSYCHOANALYTIC ASPECTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERS’ EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

<p><strong><u>The rationale of the topic</u></strong> along with problems encountered in practice of leadership system development proved the necessity of more profound approach to emotional intelligence studies. And here it would be more accurate to speak not of emotion modulation skills, but of ability to manage peoples&rsquo; unconscious reactions at working places. In this sense, the psychoanalytic view of the studied subject is crucial. The author, offering a psychoanalytic interpretation sees the need to understand the origin of emotions in the unconscious processes of transference and countertransference, along with narcissistic manifestations common among the majority of leaders. The recognition and the presence of both types of intelligence: IQ &ndash; intelligence quotient, and EQ - coefficient of emotional intelligence, are essential. &nbsp;The ability to use both types of intelligence appropriately for the challenges ahead is an important skill of an effective leader.</p><p><strong><u>The subject of the research</u></strong> of this paper is a modern leadership in the context of new the new leadership paradigm requirements, where the focus is aimed at human potential and constant organizational changes.</p><p><strong><u>The object of the research </u></strong>is the emotional intelligence as an important personal resource and a unique competence of an effective leader, aimed at the development of personal capacities and potential of their employees.</p><p><strong><u>The aim of this paper </u></strong>is to identify psychoanalytic aspects in the development of leaders&rsquo; emotional intelligence. In order to comply with this objective the following tasks were set and solved in the paper:</p><ul><li>supporting role of coaching in the current changes and personal transformation processed was unraveled;</li><li>the necessity of psychoanalytic view on the problem of emotional intelligence was proved;</li><li>the interrelation of emotional intelligence and such psychoanalytic concepts as: displacement, resistance, transfer was studied;</li><li>the influence of narcissistic manifestations on the development of leadership charisma was justified;</li><li>basic components of emotional intelligence and the ways of their development were derived;</li><li>the main reasons leading to the suppression and the displacement of emotions and emotional burnout were studied;</li><li>the ways of developing reflection and self-knowledge in order to manage unconsciously experienced emotions reactions were determined;</li><li>there were trends in the development of key competencies and leadership potential identified.</li></ul><p><strong><u>The practical importance of this paper</u></strong> involves psychoanalytic perspective on emotional intelligence and the developed algorithm allowing obtaining the specific tools for the development of emotional intelligence to control one&rsquo;s emotional reactions and reactions of other people. This in turn contributes to the effectiveness of communications, reveals the potential of the participants, develop them as individuals and leads to significant personal and team achievements.</p><p>The results of the study can be used by entry-level and practicing coach-consultants, HR managers, and by the managers themselves.</p><p>Key words: emotional intelligence, coaching, leader, manager, psychoanalytic approach, potential unlock, enhancement of efficiency</p>
