The Formation and the Development of New Artistic Methods in Chinese Visual Art in 1979-1984

The present paper examines the development of Chinese visual art in the period of time from 1979 to 1984, which is the time of emergence of Chinese avant-garde. Thus, the paper researches problems, concerning the essence and the distinctive features of Chinese avant-garde. The punch line of the research is based on the idea that the period of time from 1979 to 1984 is a period of dramatic changes and rapid transformation of Chinese art, which determined the face of Chinese art we see today. It is the key period for understanding and study of contemporary Chinese art and culture. The primary purpose of the proposed study is to identify the features of the development of Chinese avant-garde art in 1979-1984 as a transitional phase between socialist realism and contemporary Chinese art. Within this broad aim the following goals are: 1) To identify the general characteristics of the development of art in China in 1979-1984. 2) To identify the characteristics of certain trends, movements in visual art of China in this period. 3) to formulate the specific features of early Chinese avant-garde on the basis of analysis of art movements, theoretical discussions, large exhibitions and works of art themselves 3) To trace the elements of influence of Western art and traditions of Chinese fine art in the Chinese avant-garde in the 70-90-ies. The paper includes six sections: introduction, two chapters, conclusion, bibliography and attachment with pictures and photos.
