The topic of the research is devoted to the Exhibition "Insane Double" (1999-2000, Russia – France) through Memories of its Curators, Artists, and Visitors”. I’m going to develop a ‘thick description’ of the exhibition that will help me to analyze different types of data, regarded to the theme. The content of the exhibition “Insane Double” contained most controversial artworks by Russian and French artists, which were brought together in order to reach some targets. These targets were integration of Russian art into international context, legitimization of most attackable artworks, which means giving them status of art, developing the collection of Russian contemporary art. The key point of my research is that the exhibition “Insane Double” could be considered as a unique case, which could be illustrated by the fact that every feature of the 90-s was reflected in this exhibition. Another point is that the exposition represents characteristics of the special period of Russian art history – a frontier between decades of the 90-s and the 00-s, which corresponds to different ideologies.
