Using data on almost 20,000 banks, this study makes a comparison between the factors determining the value of the net interest margin in Russia, USA, Germany, France and the UK. The study shows that in general, there is a group of factors that affect the net interest margin in the same way in each country. At the same time, as the model for Russia, in the Russian market factors of the bank level have a greater influence than macro-level factors, while for the comparative group of countries macro-factors as a whole have a greater influence.
