Modern Foreign Policy of China towards ASEAN

This paper presents the historical features of the formation of relations between China and ASEAN countries, as well as the impact of China's foreign policy on cooperation between the two sides. In addition, it reveales the role of "China – ASEAN" free trade zone in developing partnerships of the member-countries of ASEAN and China. The paper describes the basic provisions of the concept of "soft power" by Joseph Samuel Nye, including the use of this mechanism in the foreign policy of China and its impact on relations of cooperation in "China – ASEAN" model. It also reveals areas of cooperation between China and ASEAN countries and challenges in these partnerships. Moreover, the author gives the characteristics of infrastructure projects implemented by the ASEAN countries and China, as a part of an integrated strategy of "One belt and one road".
