The Impact of Arctic Offshore Development on the Modernization of Russian Oil and Gas Companies

his paper is dedicated to the research of the Arctic offshore importance for Russian oil and gas companies, and to the identification of possible ways of modernization for its successful development. Using methodological approaches to the financial evaluation of project profitability and riskiness, the economic viability of projects will be determined. Also this article analyzes the strategic significance of the Arctic shelf to Russian economy. Based on the obtained results and methodological approaches of modernization, main problems of Russian companies in the issue of effective Arctic resource development will be highlighted. The final part of this paper contains possible ways of modernization development for Russian oil and gas companies that includes innovative technologies, international experience and close collaboration between science and an oil and gas sector.
