The Role of PR in International Organization in the Middle East

ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to investigate the activities of international non-governmental organizations in the Middle East from the standpoint of the use of different communication tools such as PR, advertising, and media. The first part of this thesis identifies activities of several international organizations that are involved in political, social, and civic processes in the region: United Nations (UN), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Emergency Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the League of Arab State (LAS), and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The thesis then discusses the role of religion and its effect on PR communications. Also it presents the regional peculiarities of how these international organizations work in the Middle East. In particular, it outlines traditions, mentalities, and cultures of the Arab world. Keywords: International organizations, communications, PR, Middle East
