North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded in response to the threat posed by the Soviet Union. While the Soviet Union gone, the coalition still remains strong. The organization changes and adapts to the new standards of modern warfare. The ideology of the organization changes at the same time. To communicate the current agenda to the people within and outside of the organization, NATO is forced to apply different new intercommunication methods. New media, which was initially applied by different government agencies, provide the necessary tools for military agenda building needs. Based on NATO's new digital diplomacy practices, this research aims to examine NATO's virtual social networks, and the Alliance's role in this media environment through historical and semantic analyses in order to identify the current NATO strategic communication messages in digital-space with the use of new media channels in the period of 2010 to 2015, including the case study of armed conflicts in Libya. The analyses would allow me to identify the conflicts of agenda setting narrative between the NATO and US use of new media communication channels and the current issues with the strategic communications practices of the organization.
