Name of theme: The Formation of National Identity of the Welsh during the Times of English Invasion in 12–13 Centuries. Author: Borisenkova Anna Sergeevna, Faculty of Humanities of National Research University Higher School of Economics. The thesis is devoted to the problem of the formation of national identity of the Welsh during the period of English conquest. The main purpose of the text is the determination of some tendencies of formation of national identity of Welsh and their conditionality. To achieve the aim of the thesis there are several objectives: 1. To analyze the political factors that influenced the formation of national identity of the Welsh. 2. To determine main points of the process of the formation of national identity of the Welsh. 3. To characterize the process of the development of national identity of the Welsh. The thesis consists of the introduction, two chapters and conclusion. The subject of the first chapter is the characteristics of the political events in England and Wales in the 12-13th centuries and the relations between England and Wales in particular. The second chapter is focused on the development of national identity of the Welsh and the main stages of this development. The English conquest was the most important factor that influenced the formation of national identity of the Welsh. The direction of development of relations between England and Wales also directed the development of national identity of Welsh. Several centuries of the confrontation to English conquest led to the fact that the national unity of the Welsh that was formed during the permanent threat by England, strengthened and became able to exist until our days, despite the fact that Wales lost its political independence in 1282.
