В древнеисландском языке существует достаточно широкая лексическая группа для обозначения чудесного и сверхъестественного. На русский все входящие в эту группу слова переводятся, как правило, как “чудо, диво”, что часто может привести в недоумение читателя, а иногда – и исказить смысл перевода. Как представляется, несмотря на то, что все входящие в упомянутую группу термины описывают – в самом общем смысле – невероятные с точки зрения повседневности события, каждый из них имеет свой собственный круг значений, коннотаций и смыслов – и это обстоятельство закономерным образом определяет контекст их употребления.
