Congruent and Incongruent Expressions of the Client's Subjective Experience (Within the Context of the Practice of Authentic Movement)

The paper is oriented on the extraction of possibilities of the usage of the concepts of congruence and incongruence beyond the framework of verbal psychotherapy, in operation with non-verbal (bodily and motor) client’s expressions, and also it is oriented on the integration of the practice of Authentic Movement and PCA. Possible paths of the incongruent experience are described and analyzed, that helps to specificate the three-level model of congruence, shaped by Carl Rogers and elaborated by his followers. The forms of subjective experience (such as a sign, a metaphor and a symbol) are explicated, analyzed and described as a basis for the movement typology. The practice of Authentic Movement is also described, being almost not presented in Russian scientific publications. The paper is addressed to the CCT psychotherapists, who tend to recourse to body-movement modality more actively in their practice. It is also addressed to dance and movement therapists and the Authentic Movement practitioners. Passing the client’s incongruence and facilitation of his congruent experience is one of the leading and the most important aspects of the effective psychotherapeutic work.
