The epoch of the 20th century is that time when lots of writers deliberately begin composing their works as the mythological ones, so that these texts formed one particular area of masterpieces studied time and again by philologists. Pavel Muratov’s works were thereby also analyzed with the object to find and explain ancient reminiscences. However, the novel «Egeria», a text with the highest concentration of the myth, was neglected. Moreover, there were no any explicit researches in the history of critical papers dedicated to the aforesaid theme – all of them were restricted to the mere text and were not correlated with the reality. This thesis argues the novel «Egeria» should join the list of «mythologizated» texts. Furthermore, it should be stated that in case of Muratov’s works a myth acquires an important function and, allowing its author hiding from the real world into a feature one, allows to enter the name of the Russian writer on a register of escapists.
