Year of Graduation: 2016

The thesis is concentrated on the poetics of space in the collection of short stories “A good man is hard to find” by Flannery O’Connor (1955). Although this author might be unknown for Russian readers, O’Connor was and still is a quite popular American writer. Some people even estimate her works as ones by Wilhelm Faulkner, a master of Southern Gothic. The space and its poetics always play a huge role in Southern Gothic’s novels and O’Connor is no exception. The thesis tries to analyse some of her short stories and to describe the space, which can give a key to a better understanding of O’Connor’s works.
