Sharing Economy: Motives and Forms of Trust in Transactions

The purpose of this study was to identify social conditions and prerequisites for development of sharing economy in Russia, that are associated with level of trust and motivation of the services’ users. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were solved: there were defined conceptual boundaries of the sharing economy, considered the preconditions of occurrence and development of the phenomenon. Based on the data author’s study, there were identified types of motivations of participants of sharing economy, barriers to participation and forms of trust between the parties. The study is based on the following principle. In Section the phenomenon of sharing economy and theoretical background of the emergence and development of the phenomenon were considered, including the development of information technology, the promotion and dissemination of social movements related to the ideas of anti-consumerism. Next, there were considered fundamental principles of sharing economy, including the phenomenon of trust, principles of organization and functioning of the community and the market as well as possible motives of economic activities. Section 2 provides an overview of the market and empirical research on this and related topics. Sections 3 and 4 present methodological principles for the study of this phenomenon and the main results of the study, including conclusions to address the challenges of research.
