This paper presents the studying of technical implementations of microwave filters. The possibility of implementing these devices on microstrip transmission lines is considered, as well as the procedure of synthesis. There also studied the physical features of metamaterials and their applications as a basis of the microwave filter on the example of a mushroom type metamaterial. Metamaterials are artificial materials with special periodic structure. Such substances have uncommon properties which are not presented in natural materials. Unusual properties allow creating devices with characteristics which are hard to obtain using classic construction approach. To confirm the theoretical validity of the application of metamaterial in the filter computer modeling of the proposed device was carried out and its transfer characteristics were obtained. The program CST MICROWAVE STUDIO was used to create the model and gain its characteristics.
