In this work, I study the semantics of verbal prefixes with the prototypical meaning OUT OF A CONTAINER in Yiddish, German, Polish, and Russian. The description of verbal prefixes by means of radial categories, a common tool in cognitive linguistics, exists for Russian, but not for the other three languages. That is why to provide a comparative study basing on the data available for Russian. The comparison of the semantics of these prefixes provides a micro-areal-typological picture and shows how different can be the system of the peripheral meanings in the items with the same prototypical meaning in different languages. Moreover, since Yiddish has experienced a strong influence of the Slavic languages, the consequences of this influence in the concrete set of prefixes are observed.
