A Survey of Multilingualism in Several Areas of Mountainous Dagestan

The aim of this paper is to describe the multilingualism patterns of 9 Daghestan clusters in two different periods of time. The research uses the database of socio-linguistic surveys which were conducted within the project "The Atlas of Multilingualism of Daghestan". The research takes under consideration Daghestan inhabitants' level of language skills in neighboring and distant languages, and also their ability to read and translate The Coran. In addition, the research studies gender multilingualism patterns.
