We study the derived categories of coherent sheaves on the minuscule varieties, corresponding to the exceptional Lie groups. Our goal is to describe them in terms of full exceptional collections. We give an overview of the known cases and review the general construction by Kuznetsov and Polishchuk that can be used to construct exceptional collections in the derived categories of compact homogeneous spaces of semisimple algebraic groups.
