Factors Influencing Decision in Russian Merger Control

This article is about quality of merger control and aimed at improving of empirical analysis about decision making by FAS using Multinomial logit model. The sample consists of 7 653 merger cases collected from Russian antimonopoly agency official site between 2012 and 2016. We analyzed decision to find factors, which influence on type of decision: approval, structural and behavioral remedies and rejection. We found that variables related to market share, high level of concentration, energy sector and vertical merger lead more frequently to use behavioral remedies. Factors such as 100% of asset acquisition, share capital or the proportion of shares and the manufacturing sector are not significant.
