Institutional Factors of Happiness and Life Satisfaction

The literature exploring the connection between institutions and happiness is limited and not convincing enough. This paper is an attempt to take a step closer to understanding the institutions-happiness relationship. Special attention is paid to subnational factors, excluding cross-country differences. Using individual panel data, as well as various estimates of the quality of institutions in 32 regions, we empirically investigate the relationship between happiness and institutional quality on the case of Russia.
