Adaptation of Foreign Students: Everyday Practices and the Use of Languages (the Case of American Students in SpbU)

With globalization and increasing academic mobility, the question of student adaptation process has become one of the crucial. The present qualitative research is based on the most relevant theories and ideas, «cultural shock» concept is one of them. Academic mobility, integration and acculturation, revealing the most common tendencies is important for sociological research. The study is focused on students, aged 18-25, who have come to Saint- Petersburg via some exchange program. The empirical part of the work is based on the in-depth interviews with twenty students, ten from USA and ten from Kazakhstan.
