The Effects of 2015 Turkish-Russian Political Crisis on Business Activities of Turkish Companies in Russia

The aim of this thesis to investigate the effects of Turkish-Russian November 2015 Jet Shot Down Crisis on business activities of Turkish firms in Russia. In the first part, the paper indicates the theories about the impact of politics and home-host political relations on business activities and clarifies the Jet Shot down event and economic developments and sanctions afterwards. Further it states the different analyses in the literature about the effect of the incidence and sanctions. The thesis then identifies the important dynamics of Turkish-Russian economic relations in the post-Soviet era and research the effects of the 2015 political crisis and the normalization process on business activities of Turkish companies from different sectors in Russia through survey, interviews and statistical data. In conclusion, the thesis argues that the effect of political crisis was not homogenous for all Turkish firms in Russian market. According to analyses, the effects of the political crisis on business activities of Turkish firms have been differentiated for the sectors or the sizes of the firms.
