The research in question is dedicated to the modus in the text structure of a politician’s confession. The analysis was based on 10 confessions of politicians (4 of them were written by Soviet and 6 by post-Soviet politicians). The study comprises 3 parts: The first one consists of the review of Russian and foreign researchers’ works in which the notions of modus and modality were determined and distinguished. Modus is also considered as constituting part of the text structure and enunciation. The second part unveils the analysis of confessions itself where the typology of modi is revealed and the tactics and strategies are given further attention. The third part is represented by a content-analysis of modi as well as a model of a politician’s confession text of the Soviet and post-Soviet period.
