Youth subcultural movements are closely related to the social and economic processes taking place within the country, under which the worldview of young people is formed. Furthermore, subcultures have an impact on various spheres of life: culture (inside and outside the country) and the economy. Therefore, they attract the attention of sociologists, economists, political scientists and scientists of various fields. However, although modern Japanese subcultures are gaining popularity among researchers, little is known about the causes of their appearance and the outlook of followers, especially in Russian historiography. This work is aimed at increasing knowledge on this issue and it will explore the social and economic processes of Japan in the late XIX - early XX centuries, their impact on the worldview of young people, as well as the earliest subcultures. To achieve the goal, a thematic method is used. Data will be divided by topic and analyzed. Keywords: Youth subcultures, Japanese pop-culture, socio-economic processes, worldview of youngsters
