The current investigation is devoted to the analysis of intergenerational transmission of consumption patterns and its mechanisms in various sociocultural contexts. The migratory behavior of families is the determinant that defines the cultural context. By scrutinizing the histories of families that consist of three generations and have different migration experiences it is possible to answer the main research question on how the intergenerational transmission of consumption patterns in the families of migrants and Muscovites proceeds. The research has an "Inquiring" character: the integration of two key concepts into one research discourse will allow us to examine the process of transmission of consumer behavior on Russian sample that previously could be done solely within the framework of foreign research. Based on transcripts of deep individual and group interviews, the features of the consumer practice transmission of native Muscovites’ families and families of migrants from other Russian regions living in Moscow for more than 5 years have been revealed and compared. As a result of the work, firstly, features of the intergenerational consumption pattern transmission in families with different cultural backgrounds were identified, and secondly, "transmission belts", as well as factors destructively influencing the transmission process, were considered. The study can serve as an effective empirical basis for further research into consumer behavior.
