This thesis compares the existing voting systems; these were classified by structure and analyzed by means of SWOT technique. The critical points were identified in order to improve the entire election process; this includes keeping voting privacy, casting a vote, checking if the vote was counted correctly for publishing the results. The thesis starts with an introduction to blockchain technology. It further compares blockchain and traditional ledger, including the literature review, SWOT and risk analysis of the blockchain technology. The result of the research gives rise to a novel approach, which extends the target of the election from small scale to large scale based on the proposal of an electronic voting system architecture. This approach is using the Waves blockchain system which depends on the “proof of stake” protocol.
