Over the course of history, humanity faced and managed to handle an overwhelming number of challenges testing our capability to survive, strive, and dominate the planet at large. Those terrifying obstacles, however, are not to be taken for granted: evading and hunting down predatory species, negotiating conflicts with rival tribes, traveling long distances in quest for food and shelter, defending and protecting own lands, escaping natural disasters, just to name a few. Exposure to risk is one commonality among all these. This work joins a vibrant discussion on the essence of risk, general-purpose theory and taxonomy of risks, and ways to preventively deal with risky circumstances arising in organizations of various sorts and backgrounds. First and foremost, steps are taken to establish foundations for further investigation through terminology clarification. Then, a number of recent developments in the field of holistic risk theory are revealed, examined and critically reviewed. Moreover, an approach to handle the multi-aspect nature of risk is presented and thoroughly discussed to be then elaborated on in its depth and breadth via a software system prototype. The results are then summarized, and roadmap for future developments is laid out. Keywords: holistic theory of risk, organization risk landscape, organization graph model, organization diagnostics.
