Business Models Adaptation of Generating Companies to the New Trends of Power Industry Development

Consequently, new trends in the development of the electric power industry appear and strive for structural changes. Thus, the aim of the master's thesis is to analyze the ability of business models of generating companies to adapt to new conditions in the power industry. The goal set determines the need to solve the following tasks: 1. Set up the framework of business modeling in strategic management. To characterize the main existing approaches to the description of business models; 2. Create a list of criteria for analysis in relation to the components of the company's business model and conduct an analysis of existing business models in the Russian generation industry; 4. Identify the main factors of the new market, which lead to changes in business models of companies and determine the level of viability; 5. Analyze related changes in business models of companies and ways of adapting to new conditions. The object of the study are Russian generating companies of the power industry and the subject of the study is the business model of electric power companies. Current paper conducts an analysis of theoretical works devoted to the main approaches to describing business models was carried out. Main approaches to business models were described. The typology of business models of generating companies was developed and described by according to A. Osterwalder. For the purpose of measuring the relative strength of the business model to adapt to the main factors of the future market model the parameters for assessing factors were modified according to Russian specificity. The paper allows to form an overall picture of generating companies. Furthermore, weaknesses of current business models were highlighted and formed a pool of recommendations for future adaptation to new trends in the electric power industry. Moreover, business models are distinguished between most adapted to changing trends in the industry from less adapted.
