Civic Sphere Conception as Theoretical Basis for Political Activism Studies in Non-Democratic States

The paper considers the concept of the civil sphere of J. Alexander, as well as an attempt to use it to study political activism in the undemocratic state. With this concept, we analyze the civil sphere in non-democratic state. Within this framework we analyze pro-democracy and anti-democratic movements in Russia over the past years. The influence of such movements on the formation of the civil sphere in Russia was revealed. Also, the work formulated recommendations for the application of the concept of the civil sphere in the study of political activism.
