Design of Banking Data Warehouse Architecture for Natural Language Query Execution

Competitive advantage of the company in the market in large part depends on the quickness of the management decisions. Quickness and simplicity of extracting data from the company's information systems for the decision-making are two important success factors. This paper describes the architecture of a semantic layer of a bank data warehouse. The architecture allows for the formulation of analytical queries using natural language. The interaction of the user with the data warehouse is carried out in real time via graphical interface of an instant messages system, which is installed on the user's mobile phone. The designed semantic layer includes a logical data model of the data warehouse, business glossary and a list of key words and functions with defined restrictions. Semantic layer allows user to form unrestricted natural language queries, which execution result is either an aggregate indicator, characterizing a certain activity of a bank, or a selection of rows which is chosen according to user defined conditions.
