The Legal Nature of the Geolocation Data

The widespread use of electronic devices with the function of determining the geolocation entails actual intervention in the individuals' privacy. The lack of balance between the widespread use of geolocation data and the applicable legal protection of such data caused this necessity of special research. As a result of the analysis of Russian, European and American legal experience, the author proposed the definition of geolocation data, examined their specifics, and also analyzed the possibility of protecting geolocation data by the means of personal data and confidentiality of communication.
