The Main Trends in the Development of US-Mexican Relations at the Current Stage

This research project aims at analyzing the main trends in the development of the U.S.-Mexican relations at the present stage. Nowadays bilateral relations between the USA and Mexico represent a peculiar relationship that has a specific area of conflict potential, but nevertheless are characterized by a high level of interdependence of these countries, which was formed as a result of a long historical interaction between these countries and is determined by the existence of common borders, high level of political and economic cooperation, participation in the integration group NAFTA, as well as common problems of illegal migration, drug trafficking and organized crime, that need to be addressed jointly. In this regard, the relevance of this study is determined by the fact that in connection with the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election 2016, the bilateral relations between the United States and Mexico can deteriorate after several decades of normalized bilateral cooperation. This study provides the analysis of the historical peculiarities of the formation of the U.S.-Mexican relations, the main factors underlying the bilateral relations. Moreover, the study provides the investigation of the level of political and economic cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico and the analysis of the main problems in bilateral relations and investigates the question about possible prospects of further relations between the United States and Mexico. This study uses such methods as chronological, event-analysis, cognitive mapping and statistic analysis. For the analysis of bilateral relations was used an extensive empirical base of the research, as well as both domestic and foreign resources.
