Scaling of images finds wide application it many tasks. This is one of the most demanded operations in computer graphics. Image scaling is used in graphics editors, video processing programs, and in 3D modeling programs. Image scaling is necessary when displaying images on the screen or sending them to print. Our purpose in this paper will be to consider bicubic interpolation since this method is most preferred from the viewpoint of smoothness of the resulting image. The goal of this paper is to develop an efficient parallel algorithm for scaling raster images by using bicubic interpolation, and implement this algorithm in a C++ program. The other goal is to develop the application with graphical user interface for Windows operating system to demonstrate how the algorithm works and also to study correlation between the time of image processing and the number of threads. The development of an effective image scaling algorithm will improve the efficiency of using computer resources in many tasks.
