Although the European Union is considered to be the most accomplished form of integration, it faces various challenges to its unity, such as Eurozone crisis, refugee crises and the urgent necessity of fundamental reorganization. In their turn, these problems have led to the rising Eurosceptic sentiments among EU-countries. Consequently, Great Britain held referendum to decide upon its membership in the EU. It took place on 23rd of June 2016 and resulted in a decision to quit European Union (so-called Brexit). It may lead not only to the change in the EU-GB relationships but to the constitutional shifts inside the country as well, as the EU plays a significant role in political, social and economic development of devolved areas inside the United Kingdom. The case of Scotland is of particular interest because of its known pursuit of independence, to which EU-membership is crucial. Thus, this research puts under scrutiny the consequences of Brexit for the further development of Scotland and tries to outline their general advantages and disadvantages. Key words: European Union, Great Britain, Scotland, Brexit, Independence for Scotland
