Generation and Distribution of Revenues of the Key Participants in the Global Market of Music Products

The development of creative industries, the success of artists and other creative workers require knowledge of the complex system of generation and distribution of revenues in the music market, which is extremely topical. The aim of this work is to identify sources of income from intellectual property in the music industry and to consider the process of its distribution. To achieve this the following tasks were accomplished: determining the composition of the participants in the music production market from the point of view of income, examination of the economic characteristics of music production, study of the performing rights organizations and their role in income distribution, analysis the various types of licensing, comparison of the participants’ share in the distribution of royalties, and also the analysis of authors’ and publishers’ revenues on a threshold of changes of musical business. In this study the following methods are used: analysis of monographs and articles, classification of information and comparison of data. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter covers the composition and roles of the main players in the music market. The second chapter reveals the economic component of the music production, main purposes of the performing rights organizations and types of music licensing. The third chapter explores the distribution of participants' income in the music market. At the end of the paper, I will come to conclusion whether the mechanism of the revenue distribution among the music market participants is effective.
