Student: Melesh Mariya

Supervisor: Alina Shcherbakova

Faculty: Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs

Educational Programme: World Economy (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2017

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has rebuilt its foreign policy and foreign economic activity with reference to the countries of Western Europe and the United States. However, disagreements arising from different views on geopolitical events in Ukraine and in Syria worsened our political and economic relations with major trading partners – the European Union. Unwillingness to accept the position of the West on issues concerning national interests of the Russian Federation, and further confrontation on the world stage, forced the Russian government to reconsider the foreign policy and foreign concept, having started to build a multilateral development vector. One of the priority directions is the countries of Latin America, especially Brazil, which is our ally in international organizations, such as BRICS and is also interested in development of trade and political relations with such a significant player on the world stage as Russia.
