Social networks serve as sources of information and means of communication for millions of people around the world. They are becoming an important tool for competition, ensuring high speed, cheapness and the possibility of influencing large numbers of people. Social networks have become one of the most important channels of mass communication. The North Atlantic Alliance - one of the largest political organizations which actively uses social networks as an information tool could not ignore this trend. However, new technologies require fundamentally new ways of interaction between a citizen and the state, new approaches to the dissemination of information messages, adaptation to rapidly changing conditions, which creates a number of difficulties in the promotion of large structures in social networks. The study makes it possible to determine the root causes of the insolvency of the information policy of NATO in social networks at the present time and highlights the newest requirements necessary for the successful work of military and political structures in new media.
