Prospects for International Competitiveness of a Tourist Destination: Spanish Resorts’ Case Study

Research paper focuses on the evaluation of the competitiveness of the country as a tourist destination on the example of Spain. The paper discusses theoretical aspects of the concept of "tourist destination" and determinants of its competitiveness. On the basis of the theoretical framework an analysis of the competitiveness of various regions and countries in the tourism industry is conducted, together the role of Spain in the global tourism market. The final part is dedicated to one of the forms of tourism - event tourism. The paper focuses on the role, development and the reasons for the success of this industry in Spain. Finally, the prospects of the development of event tourism in Russia are analyzed.
