This study «Public views of A. D. Sakharov in 1966-1989» examines the socio-political views and the main directions of the human rights activity of Andrei Sakharov. The analysis of the socio-political views of Andrei Sakharov is based on his memoirs, publicistic articles and official addresses to the heads of the USSR and the countries of the world, to international organizations. The scientific significance of this study is associated with the fact that intellectual history is one of the main directions of modern historical researches. The value of the opinions and views of Andrei Sakharov is connected with the fact that he offered solutions to the most complex modern problems of mankind. The practical importance of this work is connected with that obtained results can be used in further studies in this subject area of Russian and Anglo-American historiography, in educational and scientific activity of the HSE. The object of study is the corpus of historical sources related to the public activity of A.D. Sakharov. The subject of study is the socio-political views of Andrei Sakharov. The purpose of this work is to review the main directions of the socio-political views of Andrei Sakharov. This study is based on the basic principles of historical knowledge: objectivity, historicism and consistency. Key methods of this work are chronological method, historical genetic method, historical comparative method, general scientific method.
