The Parasitic Lifestyle (“Tuneyadstvo”) as a Subject of the Social Policy in the USSR

The research is dedicated to explore the phenomenon of the social policy of the USSR in the beginning of 60th years. In 1961 the government of the Soviet Union announced the beginning of the widescale political campaign against “the elements leading parasitic lifestyle” which lasted for 30 years’ till 1991, when the existence of unemployment was recognized on the territory of Russian Federation. In this work the phenomenon of parasitic lifestyle (“tuneyadstvo”) is studied through the prism of theory of Michel Foucault about power, which penetrates different public discourses, and about control fixing by this power through the disciplinary institutions. This diploma focuses on the analysis of legislative and popular scientific primary sources. Besides the history of transformation of the words “tuneyadstvo” and “tuneyadets” (parasite)are traced and the representations of “parasitic lifestyle”, which were transmitted to the mass audience, are also investigated.
