The Effect of Megaprojects on GDP in the Context of 2009 and 2014 Crises

I analyze the effect of the megaprojects (Olympic games in Sochi in 2014 and APEC summit in Vladivostok in 2012) on the real GDP of the regions (Krasnodar krai and Primorskii krai, respectively). The key findings are that the Olympic games increased the regional real GDP by 6.1 percentage points (p-value <0.0001) during 2010 – 2015 period and the APEC summit increased the regional real GDP by 10.57 percentage points (p-value <0.0001) during the 2008 – 2015 period.
