Russia and Europe in the Educational Tours of Crown Prince Alexander (1837 - 1839)

This research paper analyses the crown prince’s perceptions of Russia and Europe shaped by his educational journeys (1837-1839); explores the previous practice of journeys of princes and crown princes of the Russian Empire: and studies the primary concept of journey that affected the “optics” of the perception. Moreover, the paper illustrates the informative potential of the crown princes’ educational journeys and how it can be used in an integrated lesson-journey for middle school students “Russia and Europe in the first half of the 19th century”.
