Turning Points of Russian History as Seen Through Russian Cinema: Peter the Great

Key words: historical films, soviet cinema, post-soviet cinema, teaching history in school This Master thesis aims to analyse the impacts of historical and political context on cinematograph using the films about Peter the First as an example. Tracing the changes in the main theme of the films, as well in the the original literature underlying these films, author investigates which concepts are inculcated in the viewers. Author gives recommendations regarding the use of film fragments in history lessons in accordance with Federal educational, historical, and cultural standards.
