Photography as a Resource of Travel Journalism

The research is dedicated to revealing the functions of photography as a resource of travel journalism. The research was conducted based on Russian travel magazines "Geo", "National Geographic" and "Vokrug sveta". The main method that used in this thesis is analysis of the content of these journals and literature, dedicated to photography theory and practice, as well as travel journalism. The expected result of the study, based on the revealed functions of photography as a resource, to prove that travel journalism as a type of media is now in a situation of radical renewal. Functions, technologies of work, ways of influence on an audience change. A photo that used to be a service element of the text becomes an independent content resource. Structurally the study is divided into three blocks. The first part deals with the functions and technologies of travel journalism, its current state. In the second the place of photographic illustration in the system of resources of travel-journalism gets established and the concept of the "resource" is specified, functions of a photo as resource and its types and genres in travel-journalism are determined. The third part examines the peculiarities of the use of photographic illustrations in Russian travel magazines by the example of "Geo", "National Geographic " and " Vokrug sveta".
