Mediatization of a District Community: Digital Practices of Neighborhood and Local Government

The present study's focus is the mediatization of a district community and the transfromating practices of neighborhood, influenced by new media. The research aims to articulate the specific nature of communities which exist in the mediaspace, and also the patterns and mechanisms which determine the functioning of such communities. The theoretical part of the study includes a thorough analsysis of scientific work investigating the interrelation between media, spatial practices, local identity and sociality, researched through a spatial frame. The empirical part of my research includes a case-study focused on content and audience of a Facebook-community of two Moscow districts and based on a series of in-depth interviews with members of the group. These methods will allow us to theoretize the Moscow experience of mediatizated neighborhoods.
