Switching Costs and Personal Deposits During the Crisis: the Case of Russia

Educational Programme: Economics (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2018

The research concerns such key scientific directions as bank performance and bank runs under the crisis, the household-bank relationship, depositor switching barriers, financial stability, and competition in a banking sector. The special purpose of the study is motivated by the motives that keep households from closing deposit accounts when they tend to withdraw their deposits in accordance with apparent rational decisions like the need to smooth the consumption if they face a shock or to follow other depositors in case of massive withdrawals or to avoid the real threat to investments. The specific switching costs are suggested to be recognized on the regional level and through the survey on the behaviour of depositors.
