The paper examines the agreement on legal assistance between the lawyer and the principal. The author analyzes its essential conditions, outlines the theoretical and practical problems that arise when concluding an agreement between a lawyer and a principal, in particular, who can be a party to an agreement on legal assistance, from when, what are the features of the subject of the contract, the rules for determining and securing it, the definition of the concept of "remuneration of a lawyer" is disclosed, its legal nature is disclosed, the notion "success fee" is disclosed, as a way of paying a lawyer's work, the possibility of its introduction into the state national legislation. Also, the author singles out the general rights and duties of the lawyer to the principal, the features of their execution.
