Analysis of Financial Stability of Russian and Foreign Banks during the Period of Sanctions (2011-2017)

The aim of this paper is to investigate Russian banking sector for financial sustainability by analyzing domestic and foreign credit organizations on the territory of Russia for the period of 2011-2017 years. The analysis was based on econometric modeling of bank-level panel data of more than 100 commercial banks. Data for the research was collected from official website of the Central Bank of Russian Federation. The study was carried out as follows: first, author examines the theoretical basis of credit institutions. Then, based on the available data constructs the appropriate models and evaluating it draws the conclusion. During the study the following results were obtained: foreign owned banks behave less risky than their domestic counterparts; banks with foreign capital have greater financial stability than domestic banks; the proposed research method is good enough for a deep assessment of the financial situation in both foreign and domestic credit organizations.
