This work includes a study of the specifics of the sanctions implementation against the countries of the Middle East. The main attention is focused on the sanctions effectiveness analysis and the factors that affect it. Three cases of sanctions imposing by the UN Security Council were chosen for research: sanctions against Libya related to terrorist acts against two aircraft; sanctions against Iraq, which invaded Kuwait and annexed it; and against Iran, which was developing a nuclear program that alarmed the world community. Great attention was paid to the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, which implemented sanctions. Based on these cases conclusions about the effectiveness of sanctions and their application in the context of the Middle East were drawn. Moreover, comparisons that revealed factors influencing the effectiveness of the application of sanctions, such as the political regime, the direction of the economy, the personality of the country's leader were made.
